Oh my.

+ Interview With The Vampire had me nervous about the shift in setting and tone, but the season 3 trailer has me extremely hyped! I only watched it once as I want to avoid soaking up too many details up front, but toe-curling excitement!!

+ Finished Alien Earth and enjoyed it for the most part. They did the alien dirty though. And that ending sure cheated me out of a bit of satisfaction; Somebody owes me a horrid death scene.

Got screengrabs from the pilot up on [community profile] capshare this morning.

+ They announced a new Rey and Leia book at NYCC, by Madeleine Roux. Please please please be good 🙏

+ I'm hopefully getting my Covid booster sometime next week, and I also talked my mom into getting it. Now to get to work on my friend group 💪 Maybe shoot them this article. Light and easy read, but very clear on the benefits of keeping the boosters going.
The new research also “calls into question the idea that younger individuals and those without risk factors don’t need the vaccine,” Viswanathan says. Instead the data show that, while the shot is most effective for older individuals and those with comorbidities, “it was also protective in those without risk factors,” she says.

Additionally, Viswanathan says that the study design made the evidence “more compelling” because the authors included enough women and younger individuals, which made the results more balanced and provided a fuller picture of vaccine effectiveness for all cohorts.

+ Some good news on that front: Scientists finally reveal bio-markers of long COVID brain fog.

I had a great time with [personal profile] qwentoozla yesterday evening, we had drinks and dinner and ice cream and did a little sightseeing and shopping on Haight street and had some terrific conversation and heard some great music.
Also, L. called me that afternoon and we had a long phone conversation, they don't have a new job yet but it's only been a couple of weeks and they're not worried. Unfortunately the doctors say the person L. was taking care of will have to stay in assisted living indefinitely.

Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao

Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao is the sequel to Iron Widow, where Zetian co-pilots giant robots to fight aliens.

The plot now focuses on dismantling capitalism and keeps deconstructing gender roles.

There's major bi4bi m/f (a pairing I didn't like, but was probably not supposed to like much anyway?), minor f/f, as well as an enby character who appears towards the end. I seriously missed the m/m/f from Book 1 and might not buy the next book.

Had some Pride of the Port tea. My legs are fucking killing me. Yesterday I got a notice in the mail that they may cut off my Medi-cal if I don't fill out this form and hand deliver it to their office. I filled most of it out but some of the questions are pretty complicated and I'm not sure how to answer them. Also I have to go to the hardware store and get more glue traps. I thought I killed all the damn mice but apparently not.

Didn't get much sleep last night, I had bad dreams and woke up at like 4 in the damn morning and it took me hours to fall back asleep again. Had some PG tips which helped a little. I do have to get a lot of groceries this morning, I don't have a car, it's Tuesday which means it's senior discount day at the grocery outlet, lots of butter readers.

then I have to go to physical therapy.

Had some Ahmad English Tea No.1. I had fun at the Castro Street Fair but I fell down in the stupid Bart train so my leg really fucking hurts and I don't feel up to going to get groceries even though I should, I'm running low on or out of a lot of things, plus I did laundry after I got home from the fair yesterday and I had to go all over the bldg to do it because the machines on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor were all either busted or somebody else was using them.

Mantis

Netflix's k-movie Mantis was a lot of fun! It's a spin-off of Kill Bok-soon and focuses on other hired killers originally from the same agency.

I think this one has more humour and more found family feels, but it's also very violent, of course.

This and that and a very tired me.

+ All I've done since making it home is sleep, download some stuff, watch the entire season of Wayward, and play undemanding video games. Man have I slept. Would like to lie down right now and sleep some more, but I'm headed back to work for the day (we abruptly left Thursday instead of Friday as planned, so I left behind a wee bit more chaos that I'm comfortable with).

Surprisingly smooth ride on the ferry though, given the weather.

+ Dear Vidder letters for Festivids are cropping up, and they're such a pleasure to read through. Aww fandom ❤️

+ Hunting down the digital singles for Birds of Prey, bc waiting for the trade to drop in six months is just not on the table. More Big Barda and Tiny Bat NOW. And they cancelled it, so I ain't giving them extra money, no sir :p

Now to figure out how to read them in an enjoyable manner.

Oh! And posted some scans to [community profile] capshare from the second and third trade.

+ Watched the new Fantastic Four. It was cozy! I'm enjoying this new return to more child-friendly superhero movies. Like, I can see letting my nephew watch both this and the new Superman movie with me. I don't need all this dark stuff for grownups; the world is dark enough as is, gimme escapism!

Not much going on right now, the cops were in the bldg earlier this morning but I stayed out of the way and don't know what it was about. It was pretty noisy late last night, I closed the window even though it was really warm because I couldn't sleep otherwise.

I went out today looking for a couple of places I really liked but they went out of business. :( I also went to Nabolom Bakery looking for skull cakes but they haven't started doing those yet, the guy there said they're not going to start till next week. I'm too into Halloween for my own good, haha, but those skull cakes are YUMMY!

Demon Slayer Movie: Infinity Castle

Demon Slayer Movie: Infinity Castle was one of the best cinematographic experiences I've ever had!

The Infinity Castle already looked awesome on the small screen (think of the architectural effects in Inception), it was absolutely amazing on the big one. The background music was perfect for the action scenes. If you have the opportunity to watch it this way, I highly recommend it.

This Monster Wants to Eat Me + Alice in Borderland Season 3

The first episode of the GL anime This Monster Wants to Eat Me was intriguing! A mermaid protects a high school girl until she gets to eat her. ^^

It's available on Crunchyroll.

----------

Netflix's j-drama Alice in Borderland Season 3 was great!

I missed Chishiya and Kuina, but good for them that they didn't have to go through more death games. Along with Arisu and Usagi, there's a new protagonist, Ryuji, who uses a wheelchair.

+ My brain is mush. We dock sometime during tonight, so tomorrow will be another hectic day. Thankfully come Friday I shall have freedoooommmm.

+ I want a Big Barda icon but I'm too zapped to make one *sulk*

Maybe after I've had my shower.

+ Not helping: my mom constantly asking me when I can come see her in Oslo, and for plans this Christmas when she'll be visiting and living at my brother's. I do not have capacity for this. Love her to bits but it's tough to convey that SOCIAL BANK EMPTY, PLAN QUEUE FULL.

+ Booked my flu shot for next Thursday. Apparently they're not doing Covid shots at the doctor anymore, boo. And the only information I can find is that it becomes available week 42. Hopefully I manage to get in there early enough that it will mostly be in full effect by the time I go to Thailand.

+ One Battle After Another will be showing at the small local cinema next week. There's been some very positive buzz. I may try to lure some friends to come with.

+ Decided to try and move away from using GoodReads, and so far StoryGraph seems a good fit. I know there's quite a few options out there, but I only made it through two before settling on StoryGraph. (Fable being the second option, but just way too busy for me. Someone looking for a move involved and social experience might vibe with it!)

One of the fun things is you can make your own book lists or challenges. I started putting together a small Queer Comics one. I could only find two other comic/graphic novel challenges by searching, so that's certainly a void in need of filling that's what she said.

Anyways, I'm here, in case anybody else is stretching their wings.

Sad eta: Jane Goodall has passed.

Yesterday after the guy fixed my toilet they asked me to go down to the apt bldg main office to do the recertification. All I had to do was sign a couple of papers. They've been doing these ever since they took over this bldg and the first time I had to turn in lots of bank statements and call the SS on their office phone and fill out a million forms (and they lost some and claimed I didn't give them to them in the first place!) and every other time it was only a few forms and now all it is is two signatures. And at first they made everybody in the bldg do it at the same time and now they don't and it used to be once every nine months and this time I went over a year and a half before they had me do it again.
