Knowing that neither Janika nor Jutta would be coming to the Comic Convention in Stuttgart was a real downer.
Especially because Janika had such a long journey (from Berlin) and had to pay most of the costs. But I know that she made the right decision not to take the flight and the whole trip with an unhealed pneumonia and a low oxygen level.
I spoke to her briefly today and she is still ill. Jutta is now so well again that she has decided to go back to work. Unfortunately, she still has that annoying cough.
I spoke to Carina on Friday evening and she assured me that she and her husband Dennis, including their son Robin, would be coming to Stuttgart. They were also joined by a young woman from Munich who wrote to Carina on Vagabonds (Neil's Discord) and asked if she could join them because she was struggling with anxiety in large crowds. That wasn't a problem for me at all and Freya got in touch with me and we spent the evening chatting.
I packed my suitcase on Friday afternoon and was so anxious and nervous afterwards that I decided to take my emergency medication. It definitely helped me to calm down and think clearly again. By 10 o'clock in the evening I was so tired that I actually went to bed and fell asleep straight away. I was awake by six o'clock in the morning. My flight left at 12.40PM so I had enough time to take a warm bath, get dressed and then wait. And to my own surprise, I wasn't nervous at all. O_o
Maybe because I planned everything over and over again or tried to calm my mother who was a lot more nervous than me. So we set off at 9 in the morning, but first had to clear the ice from our car as it had been incredibly cold during the night. The drive to the airport took between 20 and 25 minutes and we drove to the airport parking garage. The way to Terminal 1 was still not close, lol. It's unbelievable how big Frankfurt Airport is.
What I really liked was the fact that everything was already decorated for Christmas. *_*

Unfortunately I didn't take enough photos of it.
So we went to the disabled check-in counter and I was able to check in my suitcase and my walker there, then I had to wait about 30 minutes until a man came and took me with my wheelchair to a gate that was reserved for people who need help. My mom was allowed to accompany me for a while, then we said goodbye and she even shed a few tears ;_;

I was then taken to the gate and talked to the assistant while I was there and he thought it was great when I told him that I was flying to the convention on my own and meeting people there. He then told me that he started the job after the Corona pandemic and loves the whole atmosphere of the airport (like me!), that Fraport has an incredibly delicious canteen where he has gained more than 4 kilos and that he walks between 13 and 15km a day. Random stuff but it was cool to just talk about normal things. While I was waiting for the bus, because our plane was on the tarmac, an older couple was joining me. They kept trying to talk to me, but they couldn't speak English or German. And unfortunately I couldn't speak Spanish. :/
But we somehow managed to communicate using our hands and feet.
After another thirty minutes or so, the assistant took me to the bus and me and the older couple were then taken to our plane.
Sorry for that many Airport pics but I just love the atmosphere on it and all the planes!)

I had actually thought that I would then have to walk up the stairs, just like I did on my last trip to Cyprus. Yes, it hurts a little and I'm slow, but we could have done it. But then the bus driver told me that he had ordered an extra transportation device so that it could be driven up and we could get on. The elderly lady was a little unsteady on her feet, so I held out my hand and gave her a little support.

We then boarded the plane, which was already full, but I was able to find my seat without any problems. And of course I sat by the window. \o/
We took off on time and the moment we took off was one of the best feelings ever for me! Nothing compares to it.
As I was sitting by the window, I naturally took the opportunity to take a few photos ;D
It was so cool that the sky was bright blue.

And after 22 minutes our flight was already over. :3
The assistant who picked me up from the plane took a while, but that wasn't so bad, because I was able to have a look at the cockpit and had time to see the crew change. And that was also super interesting, plus every stewardess was super nice and courteous.
The assistant was also very, very friendly and then fetched the rollator and suitcase for me and took me straight to the cab.
It took us five minutes to reach the hotel and I was able to check in without any problems. My check-in for the hotel was actually planned for 3PM but I was already there at 2 o'clock. Nevertheless, I was allowed to go to my room. \o/
The rest of the day I did nothing but lie in bed and enjoy the incredible peace and quiet. Every now and then I took a look in the windows opposite and saw costumes and wigs lying there and thought to myself, yay, I'm not the only convention-goer in the hotel. \o/
For the rest of the evening I listened to podcasts and chatted with Carina and Freya until I fell asleep at 10 o'clock in the evening. :)

When Tobias and I were kids, we made together with my parents on sundays sometimes a trip to the airport, go to the visitor terrace to look at the planes. ;D
The Frankfurt Airport brings back a lot of good memories. 🧡
